Strawberry Music Festivals are legendary. Generations of music lovers will gather at Camp Mather over Memorial Day Weekend to enjoy the stunning natural surroundings, embellished by national and international performers, with old friends and new. Music starts at 5:15 p.m. Thursday.
Many genres keep toes tapping and fingers strumming: Americana, folk bluegrass, swing, Celtic, gospel, rock, Cajun, reggae, traditional, roots, blues, and more. There will be 21 acts on the main stage, intimate Friday and Saturday events at Amy’s Orchid Café, a Sunday morning revival on Birch Lake, and performances specially designed for children.Small Strawberry Jam sessions, musical workshops, and children’s activities keep generations of families returning year after year.
Full days of programming for children and adults on Birch Lake: arts and crafts, storytelling, nature walking, children’s parade, nature orientation, instrument workshops, jamming workshops, movement and dance workshops, watercolor workshops, and art and photography workshops. Recreation includes tennis, volleyball, basketball, swimming, and hikes add to the spectacular camping experience in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
This is the 55th Strawberry festival. Amid changes in society and the economy, the Strawberry Music Festival “reaffirms the joy that lives in our connections with family, friends, nature, music, and the uniqueness of our beautiful community.” Become part of the Strawberry Way, a way of life steeped with “consideration, cooperation, kindness, generosity.” Or as Gandhi says, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
The Strawberry Spring Music Festival offers general seating and tarp seating in front of the stage. Bring chairs to the Wildflower Meadow Stroll into the music meadow. It begins at 4:00 p.m. Thursday.
Owned by the City of San Francisco, Camp Mather is located near Yosemite’s north entrance on Evergreen Road, seven miles from Highway 12. Situated in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at 4,520 feet elevation, Camp Mather offers 350 acres of meadows, pine trees, and mountains on the edge of the picturesque Grand Canyon of Tuolumne and Birch Lake.
